My name is Jill B. and I created the mask Scars and Diamonds that I am using as my picture. I don’t use my picture or my full name, because I write vignettes about others in my life and I wish to respect their privacy.
The mask is about hope through adversity–hope as we work through moments where we feel unloved or unlovable–but emerge with love, compassion, and empathy. Through our pain, we can empathize with the scars and charred dreams of others. Thus, the diamonds are formed. The rainbow is a universal symbol of hope. It is also a symbol of bridging. We can find the promise of the rainbow by choosing understanding, advocacy and loving our neighbors.
